Description

-We are opting for an elevated city, detached from the ground. The entire site is usable and accessible by everybody.

-The city´s surface allows for a minor degree of modulation. Sometimes the city´s surface is carved out, producing open cavities below ground, sometimes producing extrusions above ground, a maze-like system allowing for certain functions such as hospitality, tourism, commerce, or neighbourhood facilities to dwell directly below and directly on the ground.

-All other elements of the site shall be elevated alike, be it housing or the City of Science and its transformation to a scientific sky.

-The elevated buildings are understood as a scientific sky. Instead of occupying public space, they protect public space. They shelter public space. They produce sheltered public space.

-The elevated buildings are stage, stage tower and drawing floor for the production of artificial environments, both physical and virtual.

-The surface of the earth and the scientific sky create a space of action. The elevated volumes house the entire program of the City of Science. The space between elevated City of Science and Earth is a space of action and experimentation. The technical sky drops, rains and suspends exhibitions, climates, atmospheres, fog, humidity, shadow, artificial light, an artificial sun, an artificial moon, physical experiments, mist, rainbows and finally, the great spectacle.

-Where do we draw from? Constant, Cedric Price, Superstudio, Giorgio de Chirico, Carl Andre, Georgy Krutikov, to name only a few ones. Some of them were concerned with floating volumes in the sky, some of them were concerned with the potential of the surface, the continuous surface of the earth, the city´s surface.
